response to collapse 2050’s ‘the poly-crisis’
I read ‘collapse 2050’ postings as soon as they arrives, like a 19th century serial
Today’s posting was written this morning, March 13, 2024, in response to the March 11, 2024 The Poly-Crisis posting by Sarah Conner (pseudonym) on Collapse 2050. Deep gratitude to Sarah for this work. I suggest you read the posting first but after that is also good.
Here’s what I wrote:
This posting brings much relief to me, thanks. One might think it to be depressing when you state:
‘…and here's how we avoid such a scenario", I'm sorry. The time for that was 30 years ago.’
But the feeling I got (much more of a feeling than a thought) is peace of mind, like someone in the final Kubler-Ross stage.
I think this is because I can’t argue any of your points. I’ve come to the same conclusion as you about the state of our poly-crisis (but cannot write them as clearly),
Part of me hopes you’re wrong, but a simple observation of fact confirms that ‘by the time most people sense the urgency’ it will already be too late and those of us paying attention, knew.
That’s why I’ve concluded in my a calm presence newsletter that there are those trying to ‘buy time’ (slow down the damage) and those ‘working on real solutions’ (living within planetary boundaries) and that anything else, (e.g. business as usual) is a waste of precious time.
But that actually does not help much. It’s too simplistic.
I think what helps the most is your suggestion to delay and mitigate while staying healthy, grateful and connected to the local.
I would add that nurturing a spiritual relation to nature is a good practice, as is the practice of art.
That’s why your ‘poly-crisis’ posting brought me peace of mind and a sense of solidarity with life, not depression.
It reminded me that we are also connected to what comes after, albeit invisible and incomprehensible at this time.
In other words, we are nature and nature eventually self corrects….
